April 2013 Monthly Meeting.

The meeting will be held on Sunday April 21st 2013 at 10.00 am at the UTT South Campus. Lady Hailes Avenue San Fernando.
To get there turn right from the highway onto Rushworth Street, at the top of Rushworth Street facing Scotia Bank turn left. At the end of that road, you will see a 'no entry' sign and T&TEC. Turn right into a short street and UTT Campus is in front of you.

Spring Orchid Show 2013 Saturday May 11th and Sunday May 12th 2013.

The venue for the show is the UTT South Campus.
The theme for this year's Spring Orchid Show "ORCHIDS! A GIFT TO MOTHERS" promises to be a grand affair.
Members are encouraged to participate and to bring as many exhibits as they can.
The Show will be open to the public from 9.00am to 6.30pm on both days and will feature small, medium and large exhibits. Sister Societies, Environmental Organizations and the Ministry of Agriculture will also be staging exhibits.
There will be many vendors selling orchid plants and horticultural supplies.
The entry desk will be set up at the show hall to receive entries of orchid plants and cut flowers on Thursday May 9th 2013 all day until 9.00 pm.The entry classification system to be used for this show will be based on the monthly show table format.
Judging of exhibits will be done on Friday May 10th 2013 from 9.00 am to 12.00noon.
Assistance is required from members of the Society for the following:
>Information desk.
> Box Office (sale of tickets at the door)
> Left luggage.
Members who are willing to assist can contact the Show Chairperson Anis Baig (h) 653-5961 (cell) 350-7539.
Entry to the Show will be free to members on presentation of their Membership Card 2012/2013. Members whose subscription is not up to date should contact the Treasurer Gervais de Matas to have their membership renewed. Members who do not have their membership renewed for the current fiscal year 2012/2013 will have to pay the admission fee of $30.00 for entry to the Show.
Tickets are now available for the Show from the Treasurer Gervais de Matas@672-2803 and other members of the Management Committee.
The Show Committee is appealing to members to take tickets to pre-sell in order to make this show a huge success.

Gala Opening/Cocktail Party.
The Formal opening of this year's Show "ORCHIDS! A GIFT TO MOTHERS".
Will take place on Friday May 10th 2013 further information will be forthcoming at this month monthly meeting.

Monthly Plant Raffle.
There will be a raffle of a wrought iron wall plant hanger and the price will be $5.00 a chance.

Monthly Show Table.
There will be the usual monthly show table, so do bring along your flowering plants.

Barbados Orchid Society Orchid Show 2013.

Special thanks to members who contributed cut flowers for the Society's display at the Barbados Orchid Society Show 2013.
The Society's display was awarded a silver certificate from the American Orchid Society. Twenty six (26) ribbons comprising of nine (9) first places, seven (7) second places ten (10) third places and two nominations were awarded.
Congratulations to all.
