Greetings and Best Wishes for 2013

The President together with the Management extend their greetings to each member and their family "Best wishes for a bright and prosperous New Year 2013" We also wish to thank all our members for their support during the past year 2012 and look forward to your continued participation in supporting all our endeavors as we steer the Society in a proactive manner in achieving our goals for this year and in making the Society a most vibrant one.

January 2013 Monthly Meeting.

This meeting will be held on Sunday January 20th 2013 at the Southern Academy of Performing Arts Lady Hailes Avenue San Fernando. Directions to the Academy of Performing Arts South.
Members from the north and central Trinidad should travel south to the end of the Solomon Hochoy Highway to the Golconda Intersection and exit the highway on the right onto the link road towards San. Fernando.
There are two main routes to get to SAPA from this point.
> The first, as you are travelling west and arriving at the first traffic lights at Retrench intersection, turn right onto a short link road leading to the main road at Retrench, then turn left and continue west, crossing a bridge, you will pass Jenny's Wok Restaurant, a short distance away then Southern Sales, continue along passing an overhead bridge and you will then get to the traffic lights at Skinner Park, continue in the westerly direction until the next set of traffic lights, ahead to the right will be the SAPA building, then turn right on the traffic lights into Todds Street and then left into the first entrance on the left which will be the entrance to SAPA.
> The second route will be on reaching the Retrench traffic lights, continue along the Highway link road into San Fernando, you will reach the Interchange and take the entrance heading to Gulf City, Mosquito Creek, Point Fortin, etc., on reaching the traffic lights at Gulf City, turn right onto the Gulf City link road, travel north along this road until the intersection at Lady Hailes Avenue, SAPA will be ahead, turn right, proceed to the traffic lights, then turn left and with the lights giving way cross the Rienzi Kirton Highway into Todds Street, then turn left into SAPA entrance.

Monthly Show Table
There will be the monthly show table so do bring along your flowering orchids for judging.

Monthly Plant Raffle
There will be a raffle of a wrought iron wall plant hanger and the price will be $5.00 a chance.

Society's Christmas Luncheon 2012
The Society's annual Christmas luncheon was again held at the Caroni Bird Sanctuary Wildlife Centre on Sunday December 9th 2012. Prizes were distributed to winners of the October 2012 Annual Orchid Show which was held at the National Academy of Performing Arts in Port of Spain, before the start of the luncheon. A grand time was had by all.

Condolences
The Management and Members of the Society extend our deepest sympathy to Leela Ali on the death of her daughter Sasha Bisnath.Our sympathy also to Arthur Chin Fatt on the death of his brother.

Library Corner
New members and existing members are encouraged to utilize the facilities of the library in getting to know the world of orchids.Please ensure the safe keeping of the books you borrow and avoid delinquency.

Cultural Tips
Mr. Dipnarine Cassie, representative of Caribbean Chemicals Limited will be giving a lecture on pests and disease, use of Digi lab and treatment options. Members who are having problems with any of their plants can bring a specimen of the plant in a plastic bag for an analysis.

Other
This is an advance notice of the Society's annual fun/family day.
This year Mr. Hugh Clerk a member of the Society has kindly agreed to allow the Society to have the use of his beach house in Toco for our family day. More information will be forth coming at this month's monthly meeting.
